Zone Alarm tutorial
1. Install Zone alarm
2. Open zone alarm
form start ==> ZoneAlarm ==> ZoneAlarm Security, or form the icon in the lower right tray:
This window will come up after opening zone alarm.

3. locking your computer
click on the lock icon in the upper right corner, or click the red "STOP" button

Both of them do the same thing, blocks ALL incoming and outgoing connections. this is good if you think your computer is being hacked. The hot-key is Ctrl+L
Now zone alarm should look like this in your tray:
To unlock your computer, click the red "STOP" button or click the lock un till the lock "un-locks" and the normal tray icon re-appears
4. allowing programs through the firewall
If you run a program, you might see this message appear form your tray:
Check the box "Remember this setting" and click "Allow"
if you are using a program and that pop's up, look at the name of the program or computer, and decide if it is ok for that program or person to access the internet through your computer.
The other way you can allow a program through the internet is by letting it through the firewall:
Click on the "Program Control" button
now click on the "programs" tab
Now click add, and browse for a program and click ok:
4. Checking the logs
Click on the "Alerts & Logs"
This is what it should look like
1. "Rating" - shows you if the blocked program/computer was low risk, medium risk, or high risk
2. "Date and Time" - This tell you when something tired to access the internet
3. "Type" - most of these will be "firewall" or an infection / virus
4. "Protocol" - shows you how the program or computer tired to use the internet
5. "Program" - shows you the blocked program name
6. "Source IP address" - tell you where the program was trying to go
7. "Destination IP address" - tells you where the program was
8. "Direction" - tells you if the program was coming in, out, or if it was routed
9. "Action" - tells if it was blocked or allowed
10. "Count" - how many times it tried to access the internet
Then if you scroll over there are:
--Source DNS - tells you the source
--Destination DNS - tells you which computer the DNS was trying to go to
